PROPOSED YUKON LIQUOR REGULATIONS AVAILABLE

WHITEHORSE – Proposed liquor regulations are available for review and comment as of today, announced Brad Cathers, Minister responsible for the Yukon Liquor Corporation.

"The proposed regulations are intended to modernize the rules while continuing to strongly support Yukon Liquor Corporation’s mandate to promote social responsibility,” Cathers said.

The proposed regulations provide a detailed structure to implement changes to the Liquor Act that were passed by the Legislative Assembly in spring 2008. In addition, comments are being sought on two specific issues, namely, whether there should be a requirement for minimum
commercial general liability insurance and minimum capital investment for licensees.

“Changes to the rules surrounding the sale of alcohol will impact many areas of society,” Cathers added. “It is important to provide Yukoners with the opportunity for input in the development of new regulations.”

The draft amendments are available on the Yukon Liquor Corporation website at www.ylc.yk.ca, at Yukon Liquor Corporation offices at 9031 Quartz Road, any Yukon Liquor Corporation liquor store, and the inquiry desk in the Government of Yukon Administration Building.

The public is asked to send comments by January 16, 2009 by e-mail to yukon.liquor@gov.yk.ca, by fax to 867-393-6306, or by mail to Yukon Liquor Corporation, 9031
Quartz Road, Whitehorse, Yukon Y1A 4P9.
